ETHAN AND THE VERY NICE MAN

Ethan was known to be a reserved person. He lived alone and hardly communicate with anyone.

He was a recluse that hardly chat with people, not known on any social platform online (use non) and likewise in the neighbourhood. He goes about by himself and hardly known to move with anyone. A few folks who tried greeting him simply got a nod back in response, they felt rebuffed and stopped attempting to make friends with him.

Ethan began to look more withdrawn each day and sad too, he stayed more indoors. Each time he comes out he looked older and unkept, beards grown, hair not combed, clothes rough, eyes looking sad. He had no friends, no one knew where he came from. All ignored him. Then suddenly he stopped coming out of the house.

Four days before Ethan stopped coming out of his house, a stranger came to town to visit his brother who lived with his family just across Ethan's house. He was a Psychiatric Professor on leave for a few months. He flew in to spend some time with his brother and his family. A very friendly and happy man. He had noticed Ethan once or twice, his sad looks and unkept nature caught his attention. He asked his brother a few questions about Ethan and they simply replied that Ethan is a snub nobody bothered about. The stranger was disturbed at that. He was a psychiatric Professor. He became more concerned when Ethan did not come out of his house for four days. He could not hold his concern anymore and went knocking on Ethan's door. No one answered. He looked in through the window but saw no one. Fortunately, the door was not locked. He pushed and the door opened. Ethan was on the floor barely able to move. He was sick but had no one to help. He lived alone. The stranger ran in, one look at Ethan and the stranger began to cry. Ethan looked so sad, unkept, hungry, unloved, clothe dirty and barely able to move. Ethan's eyes begged for Mercy. He tried raising a finger, but the finger was too heavy to lift. The stranger, tears on his face, knelt beside him and hugged him with compassion, tears dropped from Ethan's eyes, but his eyes were closed. The stranger ran out like mad, got water, ran back and gave Ethan water to drink. Ethan drank the entire bottle of water. He had not tasted water for some days. The stranger lifted Ethan from the floor and carried him out of the house into fresh air. The fresh air worked, Ethan's eyes opened briefly, looked at the man with a sadness that could melt stone, tears flowing down his eyes. The stranger's eyes were covered in tears too. Ethan's eyes closed again, but he was breathing better. The stranger quickly moved Ethan to a nearby hospital and paid his medical expenses. Ethan was given immediate emergency medical attention. The stranger bought new clothes, personally removed Ethan's dirty clothes, cleaned him up and wore new clothes for him. He ensured they gave him the best food which he bought. After a few days, Ethan had recovered enough to be able to talk. The Doctors that attended to him had tested him, but could not diagnose anything wrong with him, yet his body was shutting down. The psychiatric Professor understood, Ethan was undergoing nervous and psychological stress. Something must have happened to him that deeply wounded his heart and affected him psychologically, making him a recluse. He needed lots of love, care and affection. The Professor was ready to work.

The stranger Professor sat with Ethan and over a few days established a rapport. Ethan opened up. Ethan was a good young man who worked as a banker and earned good money. He was very simple and trusting. He deeply fell in love with a young woman who obviously had financial problems. Ethan not only spent lot of money on her, but also borrowed from the bank to set her up in a business. She promised to marry him. Her business was meant to pay back the loan. Suddenly he stopped hearing from the woman, she stopped communicating with him. He went in search of her and met her in the arms of another man. The woman insulted him, telling him to get lost that she never loved him, this new man is her real love. The man attacked Ethan, but Ethan defended himself. He mistakenly smashed the man's head on the wall, the man died instantly. The woman fled and was never seen again. Ethan lost his job, the bank confiscated his assets to recover their loan, he was tried in court and spent five years in jail for manslaughter. He spent five years of anguish and heartbreak in prison. He came out of prison completely forgotten and unloved. People simply saw him as a murderer and avoided him. He had nothing to return to. No friends, no relatives cared for him. He begged alms at the roadside and relocated to this city to start a new life. He became a recluse. He had no friends, no one cared, no one came, non loved him. His body stopped functioning and he began to die.

The Professor wept like a baby, he began to talk to him, worked on his mind and offered him new hope. He knew what to do. He sent for his niece called Datapoe, a young working graduate he personally trained and raised and introduced her to Ethan.

She began to bring him food and keep him company. He already taught her what to do. He relocated Ethan to his own city, got him a house, used his contacts and returned him to bank job. Ethan's face began to glow once again, he was a very handsome man. Datapoe fell in love with him, they got married to live happily ever after. Till date Ethan keeps calling the Professor "A very nice man".

MY COMMENT
Dear reader, this story is not meant to hurt anyone, but to teach a lesson. All characters are fictitious. There are many Ethans in this world. Be the stranger, the very nice man.
