ONE GOOD DEED

Misty was an easygoing woman in her early thirties going about minding her own business.

One day, she boarded a public transportation bus where other passengers were seated. A chef coming from the union of chefs meeting was also in the bus. Unfortunately, the chef didn't know his wallet had fallen off somewhere before he boarded the bus. All the money on him with debit cards were in it. It was at the point of paying after the bus had moved a considerable distance that he discovered. It was embarrassing for him. The bus stopped and the fare collector began to shout at him, calling him a liar who did not want to pay. Misty came to his rescue and paid for him.

Everyone got off the bus in peace. Misty forgot about the incident. Misty had a weakness, she liked flowers. Everybody knew. One of the reasons she fell for her boyfriend, his flower gifts won her heart. Misty was simple, crystal like by nature. Misty was a private person, had little social life. Her boyfriend was her major relationship. Few female friends and no one else in her circle. Once she is not at work, she is either in her two bedroom apartment where she live alone, at her father's or at her boyfriend's house. One day Misty was kidnapped for ransom.

The kidnappers knew she liked flowers, therefore they sent a flower boy to her door posing as a flower delivery boy from her boyfriend. Misty opened the door wide when she saw the flowers from the window. As the flower boy moved to give her the flower, two other men emerged from nowhere, overpowered her and took her away tied and gagged. They drove somewhere deserted in an abandoned building where they removed the gag and untied her hands, but one of her legs they tied to a pole to keep her from escaping.

They gave her bread and water to eat and nothing else. Whenever she needed to go relieve herself in the toilet in the building, a female member of the kidnap gang with a gun always go and come with her. They collected her boyfriend's number and her father's and started demanding huge money as ransom.

The father and her boyfriend alerted the Police while still trying to raise the ransom. The Police were still finding it difficult to locate the kidnappers hideout. Misty had stayed two days with her captors. Fortunately for her, the house had a bathroom and they allowed her shower in privacy, while the female armed member stays outside the door to ensure she does not escape.

Time was running out, the kidnappers were already threatening to kill her. Her boyfriend kept begging them in tears not to kill her, each time they called him on different lines, he told them that he will soon bring the ransom, they should just give him a few hours more since he just sold his car to raise the ransom and was disposing of a few other things in addition to what her father was also making available as ransom.

On the third day, a man came to deliver food to the kidnappers, he was one of them, his job was food delivery. He brings food and then leave. The man was the chef whose fare Misty once paid. He saw Misty and was shocked. She was too weak to recognise him. He recognised her, but pretended not to know her for her own sake. Others  must not know he knows her. The chef left, but came back after two hours with some bottles of beer for the other kidnappers. They all drank and slept off. He laced the beer with sleeping drugs. He immediately untied Misty. Misty was shocked at his kindness and asked why ? "Remember the man whose fare you paid the other day on the bus and saved from disgrace, I am the person. Your good deed is what is helping you today. I recognised you, though you didn't. Come, I have a car outside, I will take you to the road, put you on a bus to the Police station before I depart." Misty started to cry, she began to say "thank you, thank you...". The chef cut in, "we don't have time to waste, we must hurry before they wake. I will sort myself out with them when they wake. I know how to handle them. You have no idea who I am.....", he laughed in a confident manner. "There is only one thing you must promise me, apart from your boyfriend and your father, no one else must ever know how you escaped. Just tell them we all slept and you escaped". Misty was ready to promise anything just to be free, she immediately said "yes".

Well, He kept his promise and Misty arrived home safely into the warm embrace of her boyfriend, her father, friends and family. She kept her promise and never revealed who helped her to escape. "They slept off and I ran" was her story.
